Sweets for the Community
Although Mr. Bake’s Sweets for the Community got its name in 2017, Kareem has long been passionate about community service and served as a community advocate since his youth. Mr. Bake made this work official by creating the Sweets for the Community initiative when he moved to DC to have a stronger impact on the DMV community.
His work continued in earnest in 2019, when the government was furloughed and many DC citizens were laid off. Mr. Bake partnered with local organizations and nonprofits to help feed those affected by the lay-offs. During this time, Mr. Bake partnered with RNB artist, Raheem DeVaughn, and together they were able to make a huge difference in their community.
Mr. Bake has continues his mission by donating his time and sweets to different organizations, schools, youth groups and food pantries. His passion for this work is reflected by his participation on the boards of several local and national organizations such as C-CAP, the Queer Food Foundation and the Worthy Mentor Group. Over the last few years he has also hosted and participated in events benefiting Us Helping Us, SMYAL, Harlem Pride, Capital Pride Alliance and the Human Rights Campaign Chefs For Equality.
